Is Now the Time to Hire an OBM to Support Your Business?
Introduction:
When I schedule a discovery call with a potential client to discuss possible working with them, I get asked two questions regularly: “what exactly is an OBM?” which is usually followed by “how do I know if I’m really ready to work with an OBM to help my business?” I answered the first question in a previous blog post that you can find HERE.
In this blog post, I’m going to identify the signs that it may be time to hire an OBM. Many small business owners are apprehensive about bringing an OBM into their business. They are often unsure how working with an OBM will help support their long term goals. Working with an OBM often leads to a better work-life balance for the business owner and will help the long term growth of the business.
The following list of signs may look different based on the type and size of the business.
Signs your business is ready for an OBM:
✔️ You’re ready for someone to step in and help you with strategy in your business
✔️ You spend too much time on administrative tasks because you have no systems in place
✔️ You have a proven offer that you have made consistent income off of
✔️ It has become too hard to manage your team day-to-day
✔️ You’ve tried to hire and expand your team but haven’t done a great job
✔️ You need someone to help manage your launches and other projects in your business
✔️ Your business feels disorganized and scattered and you have a hard time keeping up with things
✔️ Your income is stagnant and you can’t seem to grow it past a certain point
When I am on a discovery call with a business owner looking to hire an OBM, I listen for these signs. I can usually catch the frustration and exhaustion in their voice as they tell me more about their business needs. They know that they need to make a change, but really don’t know how or what that looks like.
If you see yourself in the above listed signs, it may be time for you to look at working with an OBM. Keep in mind that working with an OBM does not require them to be a full time employee. Most OBMs offer different service models that may be a better fit as you’re starting out.
How an OBM can help your business:
✔️ Take some of the load off of you so that you can focus on the overall vision for your business
✔️ Act as a the strategic partner to the business owner to ensure sound decisions are being made
✔️ Help you get your business organized so that you’re spending minimal time doing administrative tasks
✔️ Streamline your business processes, making it easier to hand off work to a VA or another member of your team
✔️ Optimize current tech platforms or recommend new ones that would work better for the business
✔️ Setup automations so that repetitive tasks are being done automatically
✔️Help build your team, including hiring and onboarding new team members
✔️Check in with the team daily to ensure everyone has what they need to do their job
✔️Help manage both internal and external projects
